Manipulation of the genes of important crop plants has been one of the major interest areas of genetic engineering so as to increase yield and quality of food products. The advantage of the technique is that useful genes from any sourse can be transferred without any incompatibility problem.This has made it possible to produce hundreds of transgnic plants made it possible to produce hundreds of transgenic plants with improved yield , disease, insecdt and pest resistance or with improved keeping quality of fruits and vegetables.
